"Don't you think we should go back and stop that fight" I asked with concern. "Nah let the teacher handle it" he says. I stopped him from pulling me and then responded "Well I am". The president made the announcement on Wednesday for an interview on ABC after two years of stating that that his views on gay marriage were "evolving." During the interview he discussed his Justice Department's refusal to defend DOMA, the Defense of Marriage Act, declaring it unconstitutional because it declares federally, a marriage is between a man and a woman. the president also explained concern on the topic's polarizing nature and how each state is slowly coming to the table on the debate. The announcement has resonated into the LGBT community and was the primary topic of discussion at the center on Halsted's Human First Gala. Every year the center on Halsted Hosts its Gala to honor individuals, businesses and organizations who have helped strengthen Chicago's LGBT community. This year's gala celebrated the Centers 5 year of serving Chicago. This year the gala presented The Community Spirit Awards to Chicago Cubs Charities, The Chicago Community Trust and Kraft Foods for their support of LGBT individuals and issues.
